Complice has no user accounts, no sign-up, and no backend server operated by the developer. Your conversations and documents are stored locally on your device (using Apple's SwiftData framework) and are never uploaded to any server we control. There is no iCloud sync between your devices at this time — each device's data stays on that device.
1. On-device chat (default). By default, Complice runs your conversations locally using open-source models (via Apple's MLX framework, or Apple Intelligence where available), downloaded once from Hugging Face. The model download itself does not include or transmit any of your data. Once downloaded, inference happens entirely offline and on-device. We never see or receive your prompts or conversations for this mode.
2. Cloud AI models — default relay (AIProxy). If you use a cloud model (Claude, GPT, or Gemini) and have not supplied your own API key, your prompt for that request — and any file/image you attach to it — is sent, over an encrypted connection, to AIProxy, a request-relay service, which forwards it to the selected provider. According to AIProxy's own privacy policy, it does not log or store the content of successful requests or responses (only error responses and basic usage metadata are retained for billing/abuse-prevention). The provider then processes your request according to its own privacy policy:
3. Cloud AI models — your own API key (Mac only). If you enter your own API key for a provider in Settings, your prompts for that provider are sent directly from your Mac to that provider, using your account and key. Neither the developer nor AIProxy has any visibility into these requests. Your key is stored only in your Mac's Keychain and is never transmitted anywhere by Complice.
4. Subscriptions (RevenueCat and Apple). Subscriptions are purchased through the Apple App Store. Purchase validation is handled by RevenueCat, which receives an anonymized device/purchase identifier and purchase event — never your name, conversations, or personal content.
5. Analytics and diagnostics. Complice does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDK. The only data that may exist is Apple's own built-in, fully anonymized analytics, and only if you've opted in via your device's Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
6. Support requests. If you email us for support, we receive whatever you choose to include in that email, and use it only to respond to your request.
